Fans of Doom Eternal have known a Horde Mode was coming for a while, and they’ve also had a good idea of what that features it would contain. As one might expect, Horde Mode will task players with slaughtering their way through waves of demons in a fast-paced, arcade-style challenge where speed and precision are key. However, it will also demand that players earn their arsenal of otherworldly weapons and complete a variety of bonus challenges to rack up points and prove their mastery.

When players enter Horde Mode, they will begin with a Combat Shotgun and all perks, runes, and mods available and upgraded–anything else will have to be gathered throughout gameplay. As players carve their way through Horde Mode’s three demon-packed levels, they can keep an eye out for special bounty demons that unlock bonus waves and drop a ton of points when defeated quickly. Players that raise their scores high enough will be able to unlock over seven new skins for Doom Eternal and leave their mark on Horde Mode’s leaderboards.

Also available in Update 6.66 is Doom Eternal’s 2v1 Battlemode 2.0 which allows players to test their skills against each other as well as demons. Battlemode 2.0 features a new streak-based Ranking System that accounts for a given player’s win streaks when finding them worthy opponents. The update also adds a seasonal leaderboard that will grant players rewards based on their progress at the end of the season, which fans may be pleased to hear about.

Update 6.66 also brings two more new additions to Battlemode–a new arena, the Stronghold, for players to fight for their lives in and a new playable demon to test out. While Doom Eternal may not be the scariest horror game out there, the cybernetic Dread Knight could send chills down the spines of anyone unlucky enough to face it. This ferocious demon adds some Terminator imagery to the usual monstrosity of Doom Eternal’s foes. The update also adds two new Master Levels, Mars Core and The World Spear, designed to give players a whole new test for their slaying skills, alongside some quality of life fixes.

Doom Eternal is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
