One of these franchises is Doom, where the Doom Eternal team have given Metroid Dread a piece of art in tribute celebrating its launch. Considering both Doom Slayer and Samus Aran are space faring heroes who have experience in mowing down aliens and other enemies on various planets, the art is a fitting tribute. This piece was posted on Doom’s Twitter account, the morning of the game’s launch date.

The art has Doom Slayer standing with his crucible blade in both hands, standing against a backdrop of an in-game location, waiting for any approaching enemies. Behind him are several imps and other demonic entities flying by from a cliffside behind him, against a bright red color background, only showing them in sillouettes. It would make for an impressive alternate box art cover for Doom Eternal too.

For fans of Metroid Dread, this should be a familiar sight, as it replicates the game’s box art cover. The main difference is that Samus Aran’s arm cannon being replaced with Doom Slayer’s sword, and all of Doom’s demons taking the place of the EMMI, the robotic enemies that she contends with during her time on Planet ZDR. Considering how amicable the fanbases are between Doom and Metroid, it’s an awesome piece of art that both fanbases can enjoy.

This isn’t the first time that DOOM paid tribute to another game’s release. Just last year, the Twitter account also posted some art that was a crossover between Final Fantasy 7 and DOOM Eternal, in celebration of Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s launch. Much the same is done here, where it’s an amazing sight of developers recognizing and congratulating each other regarding their accomplishments and accolades. Many fans on Twitter loved the tribute art as well, with some hoping that due to Metroid and DOOM’s similar settings, there could be a fully fledged crossover between the two franchises.

Metroid Dread is available now exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
